>> fragments >>

Once upon a time, in a Chinese valley, a boy fell into a spring filled with crystal clear water, and though it wasn't deep, he'd slowly drown in the aftermath - slowly die of the repercussions.  For months, a year, he believed that what those waters had left on his flesh was nothing more than a hateful curse - he never knew how wrong he was.

And sometimes, years after the boy died - he wished that he was right the first time around.  That the image in his mind and soul was just a curse, something easily expendable, something escapable.  But life rarely works the way we want it, and fate almost never deals us a gentle blow.

This is the story of a boy who died and a man who lives.  Of a girl who used to exist only in reflections, and a history that they never imagined.  This is a story of magic and love, heartbreak and betrayal.  This is a story about finding the better half of ourselves - and realizing there's no way we can have it.

This is a story about fragments of our souls.

Things we cannot keep, but can't help but treasure.

part one (html) - a past that no one believes, and a present that couldn't possibly be.  the future of the nerima wrecking crew is very different from the one once imagined. (txt version)

subsequent parts forthcoming, really!

due to some mental coaching from a friend, i've been dissuaded from releasing fragments as a one shot (and thinking back, it does seem kind of insane to hope that anyone would download and read a story that was over 596K as a one shot).  in its final stages, i will be making it into a miniseries, probably with three sections.

Side Stories:

>> becoming geisha >> Yuki reflects, and sees in the shimmering surface of a raining afternoon what she is in life, and how she's submitted so quietly to her position.  [Gosh...probably one of the few pieces of waff that I will ever write in my entire lifetime...and even this is sprinkled with angst...]

>> becoming danna >> [coming soon!] Ranma's thoughts as he visits Yuki one day after school.  The question of guilt, and where to lay it, or rather, the question of why there *isn't* any guilt.  [the companion to Becoming Geisha]

>> fragments: blaming noriko >> [coming soon!] The sequel to fragments, told from the point of view of a character that doesn't yet exist.  It tells of what happens when a father decides that he is no longer needed in his son's life, and it gives the final ending to the lives and loves of all the characters in the fragments timeline.

>> fragments: lotus >> [coming soon!] The prequel to fragments.  did you ever wonder who those 'wild and pretty youths' were?  no?  well i did - and here is the story behind the 'spring of the drowned lovers'.
